spanish citizenship
A Canadian citizen who marries a Spanish citizen will automatically become citizen of Spain and vice versa. Is that true?

Acquiring citizenship is not automatic. In order to opt for it you must have been married to a Spaniard for one year when requesting it and also have resided in Spain continuously and legally for one year, immediate to the request. Dual citizenship is not possible with certain countries. Citizens from South American countries ( those where the official language is either Spanish or Portugese) , and other countries such as: Andorra, Philippines, Equatorial Guinea and Portugal do not need to renounce their nationality when acquiring Spanish nationality.
