Default interesting PRICING in clubs in Canary ISlands?what is this practise supposed to be?!

    Hi everyone

I just wanna ask about the practise which can be seen in all clubs in Gran Canaria - I am a young girl - if I go with my spanish friends, or someone who knows their language - I get almost 60% lower prices on everythin... Once I go alone or with someone who speaks english - so barmans can see we are not spaniards - the prices go suddenly UP - because they see we are tourists... for example vodka and juice 9€ if we are english (or even 10€ if I ask another barman - as they have obviously no real pricing )... the same thing 4€ for a spanish girl... and If I say somethin to barman that I am not a tourist and live here, he says: "sorry, I didnt know you live here"...

yet, you never get any receipt, you never get any pricing list to take a look what is for how much... then they pretend they dont understand or they wont talk to you..
Excuse me, but its allowed for barmans / waiters or waitresses to set prices as they want? Is this legal - ?? I traveled across the world and you get receipt for everythin everywhere these days... except here...
What are those differences for tourists and for locals about? this is not Taxi damn..!

can you tell me what is allowed for them by government etc? Its absolutely ridiculous...

    Hello Evelyn,

All Commercial Establishments must have a Price list available for clients, and this obligation is regulated by Law. If they are charging you a different price based on your nationality or residency status that is certainly against the Law, so you can report them to the authorities and Consumers´ Association, and of course we recommend you to write a complaint in their book of Complaints, that they must obviously also have available for their clients.

You can check the exact Law, article 11 of DECRETO 90/2010, de 22 de julio, por el que se regula la actividad turÃ*stica de restauración y los establecimientos donde se desarrolla, approved by the Canary Islands´ Tourism Council. In article 11.3, it is specified: The client cannot be charged higher prices than those established in the price list, nor can they be charged for products or services not requested or offered on the Drinks and food Menu or for other concepts such as bookings, settings, tables or similar.

    ArtÃ*culo 11. Precios.
