    Default Fire Extinguishers

Hi, I am a new poster to the forum.
I have recently bought a property on a small community on the Costa del Sol.
Some things that are going on in the community are confusing me.
The community comprises six properties. The properties are not let for rental.
I have been asked to pay for a fire extinguisher, located in my private garage to be serviced.
    Question:

Is it a legal requirement to have a fire extinguisher in a private garage?

It is not mentioned in the community rules.
It is not a condition of my home insurance.
It is not a condition of the community insurance, as we do not have any.

The company who service the extinguishers (and presumably sold them to the community) return every year and charge 18 euros to service each one (8 in the community - six properties and two for the pool room).
    Is this a scam ?

    Hello Catface,

It is a requirement to have a fire extinguisher in a private garage.

The fire extinguishers are serviced because the Community of Owners agreed in a meeting that they should be serviced by that company, and the agreements taken in general meetings and approved by a majority of votes must be respected. These decisions are normally approved as they are regarded as beneficial for the neighbourhood and do not mean an excessive cost.

The Community can disallow the decision if agreed by a majotiy of votes in the next AGM.
