Default Spanish residency if working outside Spain (but in EU)

    Hello:

My family has been in Spain for 3 years and we are awaiting the 'tarjeta de residencia' on the 2nd renewal. I would eventually like to get spanish citizenship. I am from US. After I get this, if I move to another EU country for employment will I lose the years I accumulated that count towards the 10 year requirement to gain Spanish citizenship?

    Hello,

You are correct in saying that in order to gain citizenship via residence you will need to have legally resided in Spain for ten years. However note that this residence must be continuous and immediate to the citizenship request. So yes, moving to another country would make you lose those three years.
