Q. I'm an alien resident in the US and I would like to be a resident in Spain. What do I have to do?

Ahmed Elhirech

    A. If you want to be resident in Spain, it is important to know whether you want to work employed, self-employed or simply reside or retire. It is not straightforward and you will need someone to represent you on this side of the ocean, namely a lawyer. A procedure involving co-ordination between the Spanish Consulate and the Spanish Home office is the way to obtain residence.

There is a fair amount of paperwork that needs to be sorted out and the procedure requires some patience. For example, they will request a Certificate of criminal records, proof of financial means, medical certificate and some other documentation.
