Abogado or asesor?
I am buying property in Spain for personal use. My agent says I should use an asesor, not a lawyer, to handle the transaction, and has recommended someone that he works with frequently.
I have verified the credentials of the asesor with the Colegio de Titulares Mercantiles, but he is essentially a businessman, not a lawyer, although with a great deal of experience in property transactions.
Allowing for the natural inclination of lawyers to advise using one of their own, is this an adequate way to handle the business or are there pitfalls that I should be aware of?
Secondly, using my rather poor command of Spanish, I translate Colegio de Titulares Mercantiles as something like a chamber of commerce. Is that a good model and how much weight should I attach to a person's registration?
