How long does it take to get power of attorney in Spain?
I have been told 3 days but this seems a long time to me.
My father wants it for the house so I have to go over for 3 days.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Dear Sir/Madam,

A POA takes half an hour or less to sign at a Spanish Notary. The Notary will read it thorugh and your translator will have already translated to you prior to having it signed.

You can request a "copia simple" (simple copy) immediately after having signed it.

Depending on the Notary 3-5 days later you can pick up the notarised POA which is the one valid to act in Law i.e. for conveyance of property.

    It makes sense.

All a NIE number is is just a Fiscal Identification Number for tax purposes.

On you inheriting you will have to pay Spain's Inheritance tax. To do this you will require a NIE number.
