Question International Student: Ordering item from abroad.

    Hello Belegal!

Please advise me on the following situation.

I am studying in Spain, non-EU citizen. I have the NIE card. At the same time I bought a notebook/laptop from US internet shop and it will arrive next week (mine is not working good anymore). I searched for the information about taxation, or vat or other additional payment for international students studying here but not found it.
So the question is Am I liable for tax free in this case or Not?

Thank you! Waiting for your reply!

    Hi MSI,

Unfortunately I cannot advise you on the different fiscal advantages for students, but for non EU tourists you can request in the majority of cases, the reimbursement of the paid VAT on any presents.

If you purchase a laptop in the US, you will pay custom duties which will include VAT at 18%. This VAT can be claimed when you leave the EU. There are certain points in airports to do this in.
