Default Spanish citizenship if grandfather born in Spain but not father.

    Hi All,

My grandfather was born in Spain. He left Spain for Puerto Rico when he was 18 and married a Puerto Rican. My father was subsequently born in PR. My father, who never lived in Spain, was able to obtain his Spanish citizenship years ago.

Am I eligible for Spanish Citizenship under these circumstances?

    Thanks in advance,
    J. Borges

    Mr. Borges,

You can apply for the spanish nationality depending on the route your father followed when he applied.

If you decide to reside in Spain for a year before you apply, you will be eligible for the spanish nationality as the grandson of a spanish national.
