After having been an inpatient at a private hospital do I have the legal right to have a copy of all the medical and hospital records relating to my stay.

Dear Sir,

I don't see why not. The Ley General de Sanidad of 1986 and a RD of 1995 allow a patient to request a copy of their hospital record.

Why, are you being denied a copy for some bizarre reason?

I was more specifically asking about my wife's medical records who passed away in hospital following a routine operation.

I am not getting any assistance from the hosipital and want closure, this has been going for for over 15 months

I would advise you to hire a lawyer to help push this matter forward.

It is clear they are not going to release a copy of said hospital record after 15months.
