hi,

about a week ago i got contacted by a company called George Laurent (over the phone), who said they could get the money back that i lost at a timeshare deal.
And if that is not amazing enough, they said the case was already won and claimed to have the sum of 50.000 euros already in their possession and waiting for me to collect it.
All i needed to do was transfer them 5000 euros, and they would release "my" 50.000 euros.
Ofcourse i was surprised, as i never paid that much money to any timeshare company...

After asking more info on their firm, this is what they could give me:
Firm: George Laurent
caller: Annick De Vos
judge: Jose Angel de las Guervas
notary: Alejandro Gabriel Alonso

I was also told that i had but 4 weeks to transfer them the 5000 euros, otherwise the 50.000 euros would be returned to the resorts.
If i did do the transfer on time, the money would be in my account within 10 working days.

Anyone here ever heard of this firm? Any experience with them (good or bad)?

thanx,

jackyX

Dear Madam,

You better act quickly and send them the 5,000€ then!

Serioulsy, I believe you are being victim of another bogus law firm (http://www.marbella-lawyers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=382). Sadly this has become all too common. Foreigners keep being targeted by these scammers which are not Spanish themselves I may add.

There is no Notary in Spain under the name of "Alejandro Gabriel Alonso". You can check yourself: http://www.notariado.org/guia/?do=search

I suggest you read all the following articles before you send them any funds:

1. Public Warning.-Scammers passing themselves off as Spanish lawyers and law firms (http://www.marbella-lawyers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=382) - 13th of March 2009

2. Careful with Scammers Posing as Spanish Lawyers (http://belegal.com/wordpress/careful-with-scammers-posing-as-spanish-lawyers/) - 18th of March 2009

3. 9 Tips on How to Determine if an Offer is a Scam (http://belegal.com/wordpress/9-tips-on-how-to-determine-if-an-offer-is-a-scam/)- 17th October 2008

Ask them for the full name of the Spanish lawyer as well as his registered number to practice law in Spain. We can then find out if the lawyer exists.

Maybe this law firm is a foreign law firm. I've never heard of them and they do not come up in any search.

In any case the details you provide don't make sense legally as these procedeures are dealth with in a different manner.

thanx for the quick reply...

i will try to find out any info on the lawyer(s) they supposed to work with.
but if the notary doesn't exist, i strongly doubt that the lawyer(s) will.

the 5000 euros was to be paid to the (non-existing) notary, therefor my confidence in this george laurent firm is completely lost.

thanx for the advice and help,

Dear Madam,

You are welcome.

One would not need to pay a Notary to retrieve these funds. It's clearly another scam, yes.

Yours faithfully,
