My friend is a Ukrainian passport holder married to a Spaniard for 10 years and living with him in Mallorca, Spain throughout that time. She has permanent residency rights and the Family Book for the 10 years period. Does she have to go through the full Spanish Nationality tests of the Cervantes Institute or is there some sort of fast track or exemption for her married status???

Supplementary question - any really really clued up lawyers that we can consult and retain about this matter?

Hello Pau

She has to go through the standard and current Nationality application ( New Law 1004/2015 (http://noticias.juridicas.com/actualidad/noticias/10642-nuevo-procedimiento-para-la-adquisicion-de-la-nacionalidad-espanola-por-residencia-real-decreto-1004-2015-de-6-de-noviembre/)) , and this involves taking the DELE exam required to prove an intermediate level of the Spanish Language command.

You can find specific details of the DELE exam for Spanish Nationality applicants at the Instituto Cervantes website (http://dele.cervantes.es/informacion-general/candidatos-obtener-la-nacionalidad-espanola.html).

I recommend her to retain the services of a Local solicitor in Ibiza to help her with the application as close contact with the Local Civil Registry is imperative.

Regards,
