Can somebody help me please, I used to live in Spain with my wife. We divorced and she gave me some money in return for signing the house over to her name. This all happened 5 years ago and she is still in the house and I´m back in England. Last week she telephoned me to tell me that there was a bill for me from the Spanish taxman for the tax owed when I signed the house over to her. The bill was for €2500 and she said that she would pay it or otherwise there would be an embargo on the house.I told her that I didn´t have the money to pay it because I am ill and on benefits.I have since recieved a solicitors letter demanding I pay back his client ( my ex-wife), and that if I didn´t he would inform the European civil claims procedure and get the money back that way.
I wonder if anyone knows where I stand legally as I did not say to my ex that I would repay her and I dont have that sort of money at my disposal, Thank you in advance.
