I wanted to ask a question about Spanish citizenship. I was born in Sevilla at San Pablo Air Force Hospital in 1968 and left 6 months later when my parents returned to the US. Both of my parents are American citizens. My father was in the US Air Force. He was stationed at San Pablo Air Force base. My father has always said that have Spanish and American citizenship because San Pablo Air Force Base was a Spanish base and not a US base. Is this true? Just curious.

Dear Plumdusty,

Welcome to the belegal forum.

You were born to US citizen parents, so you are immediately granted their nationality. As none of them has Spanish citizenship, you are not entitled to have the Spanish nationality due to the fact that you were born in Spanish Territory. However, if you reside in Spain for a continued period of one year you will have the chance to apply for the Spanish citizenship as consequence of your Spanish birth, according to the current regulations.

Regards,
