Hello, My household insurance was due to expiry on 16th December. On 24th November I got the renewal quote from my broker. They said the money would automatically be taken from my bank account. I said I did not wish to take out their policy again. I was then told I couldnt cancel it their end and I would have to cancel the direct debit myself to stop it renewing. I was also told they needed 2 months to cancel yet I was not cancelling an existing policy just not taking out a new one as I got a cheaper quote elsewhere. Anyway I told my bank to cancel the direct debit yet now I have just found out that they have taken out the money anyway. Can I claim this money back and how do i go about it, should the bank reclaim it for me or do I get the insurance company to give it back (which Im not hopeful about!)? I have already taken out another policy so now I have paid out twice.
