Default DUA document - DO I NEED IT? (important!! spanish idiocy or not?

    HI everyone

I asked weeks ago about the registration of the car from anotehr EU country (my case is CZech Rep. - as I used to live there and the car is registered there)..
though we have a lot things done already (ITV, NIE, IMPuesto matriculacion and circulacion... though - now we have a confusion.

The guy in Trafico in Las Palmas told us today (another one then yesterday) that in my case we will need DUA yet (Documento Unico Administrativo) - in order to finish the registration... INteresting is, that yesterday, there was another guy, to which btw I gave out because of his behaviour (behaved like I were some idiot from east bumblefuckk - he was the most annoying and idiotic officer I ever had to deal with) - and he didnt tell us anythin about DUA (we travel 50km to Las Palmas one way and 50km back ... Now, I looked into it and found this:
http://www.dgt.es/was6/portal/conten...n/mathisto.pdf and this: http://matriculaciones.info/ - both state, that DUA document is needed only for vehicles bein imported here from countried of the THIRD WORLD!! EXCUSE me, but CZ is part of European Union!!! so what is this fuss about??? Do I really need it? or the officers wanted to be smart and piss me off even more (because I got angry with that first one day before - and btw they met for a short talk while we been waitin behind counter )?? or is there any special rule which applies for Canary Islands??

BTW I am askin - - because it will take another day for me to get that DUA - we asked already and it takes goin to town hall again, applayin for padron etc... and yet - everyone EVERYBODY tell us different - even in TRAFICO they didnt know where exactly should I pay for MAtriculacion etc.. one of them send us there the other there etc... we went to Las Palmas twice already, and I m gettin really fed up of that! my BF is angry even more because of the system here...

oh and btw - we brought my car here 6 months ago (now its 6 months) with us by the ferrie...

Please somebody tell me if the DUA is just a joke to complicate things or I really need it.

    Thank you

    Regards
    evelyn

is there any exemption to canary islands - that every car brought here (even as part of my household as we brought the car by ferrie while travelin here ...) must have DUA although brought from EU country??

    Hello Evelyn

The Canary Islands have a different fiscal status than mainland Spain and the rest of Europe. There is no VAT as such, but you pay IGIC tax. If you are importing a car, you may even get a complete IGIC exemption if you plan to become resident (certain restrictions apply). Therefore, a DUA is required to declare the fiscal status of the car.

I recommend that you contact a gestoria specialised in these kind of services (e.g. http://www.gestionaduanera.com/eng/vehicles.html).
