Default Effect on residency when not employed

    Hello:

I have completed 4 years of residency in Espana. My next renewal is due in 10 months (March 2013) - meaning that the residence card is valid till March 2013. I lost my job last month. 1) how long can I continue to live in Espana without a job? 2) If for example I stay unemployed for 8 months, and 2 months before the renewal of tarjeta de residencia I find a job, will I be able to renew the tarjeta?

    Hello Mikey,

You are still allowed to be in Spain until March 2013, so in the meantime I recommend you to look for a job. Once you have completed 5 years of legal residency you are entitled to apply for a long stay residence permit, so you will hopefully have a new job by then. If not, you will still be able to apply as you are not required to submit a job contract.

Thank you Patricia for your quick reply.
    Just to clarify:
So not having a job will not impact my getting my residency extended? Yes, I hope I will find a job before then.
