Default Reclaiming Spanish citizenship for American born in Spain

I was born in Spain in 1982 to American parents who were in the U.S. military and stationed in Rota. We moved to the U.S. when i was 2.5 years old, and I have not lived in Spain since. I have a Spanish birth certificate and would really like to reclaim Spanish citizenship (I currently live in London and visit Spain quite frequently). My question is am I able to reclaim citizenship (I'm assuming I did once have it) and, if so, how would I go about doing so?

Many thanks for any help you can offer!!

    Hello AWS,

Those individuals that were born in Spain can apply for citizenshp after one year of legal residence. Therefore, you can apply for the citizenship only after obtaining a residence permit, based on a self employed or salaried work and residence permit or a family relationship with a Spanish citizen or legal resident in Spain.
