    Default Income Tax

I work legally with a contract for 15 hours per week in a bar here in Spain and am a Resident. I have been told by my boss today that I will be liable for a tax bill in excess of 1,500 Euros shortly yet I do not know why this is. I have been working there for nearly two years on contract, yet this is the first time I have been told I need to pay this amount of money.

    Can anyone tell me why?

Sorry I forgot to mention that I earn 80 Euros per week, plus have a child of 1 year old.

Well, it doesn't make much sense. If you are working legally on a work contract, your employer is responsible for withholding your taxes monthly. However, this is for amounts in excess of around €700/month. If your wage is lower than this figure, you are not subject to Income tax.

    Default Thank You

Thank you very much, ifv. I did do some research which stated that income tax wasn't payable on salaries less than 5,000 Euros pa but I just wanted to be sure.

It looks like my boss is trying to be nasty and nothing more.

    Thanks once again

This is what it seemed to me. Good luck with your boss!
