Options if handing back keys not accepted?

I am UK resident. I have applied to the bank to "hand back the keys". If they do not accept the appplication, what are my options? I cannot make the mortgage commitments.

Also, is it possible for the Spanish banks to place a charge on spouse's assets in the UK? I bought the property in Spain on my own, before we were married.

The problem is not particular to you and I had one of my friends facing same situation like yours and he was facilitated by one expert to get out of it.
