Hi Unregistered. Anyone can buy property in Spain. It makes no difference if you are an EU citizen or not.

I don't know if it's the case, but if you are looking to apply for Spanish residence, a different story is whether this will suffice to have your application approved. Although buying property in Spain might be useful for some types of residence permits, by itself it isn't enough to have your application approved.

Hi
We are looking to buy a property in spain, we have heard that you can buy them directl from the banks.
Is this true and how do we go about finding out about properties

thank you

Dear Sir,

Yes it's true.

Every major bank in Spain has now set up their own estate agencies to offload their huge stocks of properties. In fact, Spanish banks are now the largest real estate agencies.

I already explained the matter in detail on these threads:

As a non EU, I wanted to buy a house around Murcia, Villamartin, and around the south of Torrevieja and I was told that it is a military zone and I need a lot of documents and clearance from some offcies in Madrid to do so.
Does anybody know about this and where can I find out?
Thanks

Hello Nomad99,

In principle purchasing property located in military zone is not possible in Spain. It might well be that the area you are looking into is slightly affected by the military zone but not within it. Once you have identified the property you are interested in, you must contact the local town hall in order to enquire its status. Please don't forget to carry out all the other searches in order to determine the legality of the property and that it is debt free. As always and in order to avoid future headaches, we recommend you to engage the services of a lawyer specialising in coveyancing matters.
